My name is Nirmala

standing on holy groundstanding on holy ground……

I have had a spiritual name for some years, but I have been shy about using it. My beloved teacher Baba Hari Dass gave it to me and told me it was the name of a goddess. It means “pure”. (nir-mala “without stain)”. My name Karusia, is a variation of my birth name Karin, which also means “pure”. Coincidence? Probably not if a guru has a hand in it……

At any rate, it has been a name to grow into and a name that has offered me many hours of contemplation. Over the years, “Nirmala” has morphed into my own personal spiritual role model, my ishta devi. Her energy is transpersonal, yet she is also in my blood. There is no separation….She is me, I am she. Tat twam asi.

And so it is. A spiritual name is a gift that heralds and celebrates a new way of being in the world!
